Basil Reeve

Basil Reeve grew up in New York City. Upon graduation from Juilliard, he won a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Holland, but remained in New York City to become principal oboist of the New York City Opera and a member of the New York Baroque Ensemble, the Carnegie Wind Quintet, and the New Amsterdam Ensemble. In 1970 he took a position as principal oboist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Jean Fournet. The following year he joined the Minnesota Orchestra, first as associate principal, and then as co-principal and finally as principal oboe. As member of a long-established Twin Cities chamber group, The Musical Offering, he has performed as soloist at the Spoleto Music Festival, the North Carolina Festival of the Arts, Monadnock Music, the Festival of the City of Mexico, the Round Top Festival and, on many occasions, with the Minnesota Orchestra. He has been a featured soloist at the annual convention of the International Double Reed Society and can be heard on Monitor Records, the Musical Heritages Society, and Virgin Records.
