An active performer as well as teacher, Fredric T. Cohen recently retired after 32 seasons as principal oboist with the Springfield Symphony. He performs regularly with the Avanti Wind Quintet and is a recitalist and clinician. He has performed as soloist and principal oboist with the Harvard Chamber Orchestra, Boston Composers Orchestra, Boston Baroque, Arcadia Players and Collage. He has taught oboe, coached chamber music, and conducted Wind Ensembles at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston University, Boston Conservatory of Music, Longy School of Music and can be heard on recordings issued by Telarc, Gasparo, Northeastern, Gunmar, BEEP and Opus One Records. He is a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
