Janice Murphy has made Amherst, Massachusetts her new home after spending 26 years in “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington, DC. Her career with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra included hundreds of performances in Washington, DC, on national tours, and regularly at the White House. Additionally, Ms. Murphy was a member of the Alexandria Symphony (Virginia), and Principal Clarinet in the Chesapeake Orchestra (Maryland), and has performed with the San Juan Symphony (Colorado), the Annapolis Symphony, The Opera of Northern Virginia, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Elgin Symphony, and the Fort Wayne Symphony. Janice was the professor of clarinet at St. Mary’s College of Maryland for 25 years and has enjoyed teaching students of all ages and levels of playing in her private studio for more than 40 years. She is currently principal clarinet and operations manager of The Valley Winds in Amherst, MA, and continues to freelance and teach.
